OE Picks Up Conference Win on Senior Night

All 13 players for the Ovid-Elsie Lady Marauders reached the scoring column as OE cruised past the Mt. Morris Panthers, 77-17 to improve to 10-4 and 5-1 in the Mid-Michigan Activities Conference.

Sophomore Kiah Longoria finished with a game high 17 points while freshman Ava Bates knocked down 11 points, and senior Tristin Ziola added 10 points.

"It was nice to see so many girls play and contribute tonight," said Head Coach Ryan Cunningham.  "When we run the floor we are at our best and that's what we did.  Kiah was the beneficiary of running the floor tonight and finishing and it was great to see her hard work payoff.  She is always the person that we ask to guard the other team's best player, so to see her rewarded offensively was very satisfying."

The Marauders used scoring runs of 25-4, 27-7, 16-2 and 9-2 per respective quarter.

Madison Cunningham, Evalyn Cole and Hailee Campbell each scored 8 points for the Marauders while Rylee Lewis chipped in 3 and Kaylee Hall, Braylon Byrnes, Izzy Loynes, Hadley Bukantis, Murphy Alexa, and Caitlyn Walter each added two points.

Campbell and Bates shared rebounding honors with 6 caroms each while Walter handed out 5 assists and Cole 4 helpers.  Ziola led in steals with 4 thefts on the night.

"We wanted to send our seniors (Cunningham and Ziola) out with a win as they played their last home game tonight," Cunningham added.  "These girls have literally been with me since 4th grade and are the only ones to hang in there for four years of high school basketball.  I couldn't be prouder as a coach - those two are really special kids."

Ovid-Elsie shot a blistering 57% from the field and handed out 18 assists on 35 made baskets while also collecting 15 steals.

The Lady Marauders will travel to Chesaning (7-4, 3-2 MMAC) Friday night for the regular season finale at 5:30 p.m. before entering the District tournament Monday against Durand.  Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Owosso High School.
