Lady Marauders Beat Durand

After a slow start in the first quarter, the Ovid-Elsie Lady Marauders turned up the pressure en route a 67-34 conference win over Durand.  The win improves OE to 8-3 (3-1 MMAC) while Durand drops to 4-6 (1-4 MMAC).

Ovid-Elsie featured four players in double digits including Caitlyn Walter with a game high 17 points, Ava Bates with 12 points, Tristin Ziola with 11 points and Evalyn Cole with 10 points.

"Any time you get four girls in double digits, the outcome should be favorable," said Head Coach Ryan Cunningham.  "Most importantly, I am pleased with how we bounced back from a bad first quarter and turned up our defensive intensity."

Durand led the opening stanza 9-6 before the Marauders used a 21-7 run in the second quarter to make it 27-13 at half.

"I was really concerned early on, to be honest," said Cunningham.  "They have some really nice players and we just didn't seem to have any energy early on."

The second half was all Ovid-Elsie as the Marauders used scoring advantages (17-7 and 23-11) to close out the game.

Madison Cunningham and Kiah Longoria each chipped in with 6 points each while Hailee Campbell added 4 points and Braylon Byrnes a free throw to round out the Marauder scoring.  Cunningham led on the boards with 9 caroms while Ziola added 7.  Longoria and Cole each picked up 3 assists on the night while Ava Bates grabbed 4 steals.  Ovid-Elsie handed out 13 assists on 23 made baskets and shot 41% from the field including 8 of 20 from long range and shot an impressive 81% from the foul line.

"I cannot express how unselfish this team is," noted Cunningham.  "Cole is starting to emerge as a real floor leader at the point guard position and Bates has become a complete utility player for us.  They are just making everyone around them better each and every night."

Ovid-Elsie will be back in action on Thursday night as LakeVille comes to town for another MMAC conference showdown.
