OE Lady Marauders Pick Up Non-Conference Win

The Ovid-Elsie Lady Marauders picked up a non-conference win Friday night over visiting Flint Southwestern, 68-18.  OE improves to 3-1 on the season while Southwestern dropped to 0-1.

"We're thankful that Flint Southwestern was able to pick up a game after we both had cancellations this week. It was their first game so I give them a lot of credit for making the trip on short notice," said Head Coach Ryan Cunningham.  "Our girls played hard and executed well. We need to keep getting game experience because we’re young and finding that chemistry is important. We still have a lot of things to work on as league play starts Monday."

All ten players reached the scoring column for the Marauders as freshman Braeden Tokar filled the stat line with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists and classmate Hailee Campbell chipped in with 11 points.  Senior Tristin Ziola hit double digits with 10 points including 8 rebounds, while Caitlyn Walter added 7 points, Braylon Byrnes (5 rebounds) and Kiah Longoria each added 6 points, Kaylee Hall 5 points (3 assists), Madison Cunningham and Ava Bates 4 points each, and Evalyn Cole with 2 points to round out the scoring.

Ovid-Elsie shot 49% from the floor, 89% from the free throw line and had 18 assists on 29 made field goals.

"We played really unselfish basketball tonight," noted Cunningham.  "That type of unselfish play will pay us dividends later in the season."

The Marauders will open up league play as they travel to Montrose on Monday night for a 5:30 contest against the Lady Rams.
