Due to a cancellation, the Fulton Pirates made the trip to Ovid-Elsie Friday night for a non-league matchup in girls basketball. Both teams entered the contest at 0-1, but it was the Lady Marauders who came away with the win and improved to 1-1.
Caitlyn Walter had a game-high 13 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 3 steals while Braeden Tokar finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds. A balanced scoring attack saw Kiah Longoria add 8 points, Ava Bates 7 points, Evalyn Cole and Kaylee Hall 5 points each, Hailee Campbell 4 points and Tristin Ziola and Madison Cunningham with 2 points each. Longoria also notched 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
"I thought we played a bit more relaxed tonight," said Head Coach Ryan Cunningham. "We played harder and executed better. It'll take us a couple games to work things out but I like the direction we're heading."
Ovid-Elsie jumped out to a 16-6 first quarter lead and then followed it up with a 20-5 second quarter to make it 36-11 at half. An 8-1 third quarter followed by a 12-3 fourth quarter made the final score 56-15.
Ovid-Elsie will host Burton-Bendle on Monday at 4:00 p.m. before traveling to Laingsburg on Wednesday to take on the Wolfpack.
