Tuesday night the Goodrich Martians handed the Ovid-Elsie Lady Marauders it's first loss of the season, 39-25.  Ovid-Elsie falls to 18-1 on the season while Goodrich improved to 13-6.

"We knew this was going to be a battle and a great test to see where we are at," said Head Coach Ryan Cunningham.  "Goodrich is a very good team and play in a tough conference."

Ovid-Elsie led for most of the game including 8-5 after the first quarter and 15-12 at halftime.

"It was a real defensive battle," noted Cunningham. "Neither team was giving much ground and scoring was hard to come by all night."

Again, Ovid-Elsie managed a 9-10 third quarter to lead 24-22 at the end of the third, but then the Martians started to heat up and outscored the Lady Marauder 17-1 in the fourth quarter.

"They hit some big shots in the fourth quarter and we couldn't buy a bucket," said Cunningham.  "On top of that, we failed to execute at the free throw line."

OE went one for eight at the charity stripe in the fourth quarter and finished 6 of 14 on the night.  Also, the team a dismal 17% from the field on the night.

"I think our shooting percentage really tells the story," added Cunningham.  "Playing back to back against two really good teams took a lot out of our girls.  We're not making excuses, they out played us in the final stanza, but if I am being honest with myself (and my team) I know that we just didn't have the legs.  Truth be told, I am extremely pleased with how hard our kids played and the fact that they kept fighting and never quit."

Caitlyn Walter had a team high, game high 11 points while Evalyn Cole added 4 points and 4 rebounds.  Braeden Tokar chipped in with 3 points and 7 rebounds while Hailee Campbell (5 rebounds, 2 steals), Ava Bates (6 rebounds, 3 steals) and Kiah Longoria (4 rebounds, 4 steals) each added 2 points.

Ovid-Elsie was only able to assist 4 times on 9 made baskets and was out rebounded by the Martians 38-32.  The Lady Marauders were able to collect 15 steals on 24 Goodrich turnovers.

Ovid-Elsie will travel to New Lothrop for the regular season finale on Friday night.  Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
