OAKLAND CHRISTIAN SCHOOL: 49

The Ovid-Elsie Lady Marauders got all they wanted out of a non-conference tilt with Auburn Hills Oakland Christian Monday night as OE prevailed 54-49 to stay unbeaten on the season.

"We knew we were in for a battle and it seemed like every time we'd make a run, they would come storming back," said Head Coach Ryan Cunningham.

Ovid-Elsie held a 9-6 first quarter advantage after Evalyn Cole drained a buzzer beating three-pointer.  But it was a 17-7 second quarter surge that ultimately propelled the Marauders.

"I think our pressure finally got to them in the second quarter and we were able to turn them over and build a decent halftime lead," noted Cunningham.

Oakland Christian would hold a slight 11-9 third quarter advantage but it was a 25-19 Lancer advantage in the fourth quarter as the Lancers started to heat up from the outside and convert at the free throw line.  Oakland Christian connected on three from down town and shot 8 of 10 from the charity stripe.

"We had a couple of defensive breakdowns and they capitalized," said Cunningham.  "Plus, we missed some easy transition and breakaway buckets that are uncharacteristic of us.  But when it counted, we also went 8 of 10 from the foul line down the stretch."

Caitlyn Walter paced OE with 16 points while sophomores Ava Bates and Braeden Tokar chipped in with 13 points each.  Bates collected 5 rebounds and 3 steals as well.  Evalyn Cole (5 assists) and Braylon Byrnes each added 3 points while Rylee Lewis, Kiah Longoria and Hailee Campbell each added 2 points.

Ovid-Elsie handed out 12 assists on 18 made fields goals and shot nearly 44% from the field.  Oakland Christian held a 22-15 rebound advantage and out shot OE from the foul line 80% to 63%, respectively.  The Marauders were able to collect 14 steals off of 24 Lancer turnovers.

Next up for OE is Goodrich on Tuesday night before traveling to New Lothrop on Friday to close out the regular season.
