Lady Marauders Get Past Indians

Game Date
Jan 25, 2022
Score
MARAUDERS: 55
CHESANING UNION HIGH SCHOOL: 37

The Ovid-Elsie Lady Marauders got all they could handle from an aggressive Chesaning Indian team but ended up prevailing, 55-37.  Ovid-Elsie improves to 10-0 (7-0 MMAC) while Chesaning falls to 8-4 (6-3 MMAC).

Ovid-Elsie opened the game with a 17-5 first quarter but Chesaning battled back with a 14-12 second quarter surge.  The Lady Marauders led 29-19 at half.

"We had some self-inflicted turnovers and didn't shoot very well in that first half," said Head Coach Ryan Cunningham.  "I give Chesaning a ton of credit because they sped us up and they shot really well in that first half."

After a tight 11-10 third quarter Ovid-Elsie out-paced Chesaning in the fourth quarter 15-8.

"We really didn't have a great day of preparation on Monday," noted Cunningham.  "We just seemed sluggish at practice.  Then, having a snow day today, we just seemed a little off.  But I'm proud of our kids because it was a game of runs and we battled through some foul trouble and some tough defense to come away with this win."

Caitlyn Walter had a game high 21 points including 3 rebounds and 3 steals.  Ava Bates filled the stat sheet with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals while Kiah Longoria added 8 points, 6 steals and shot a perfect 4 for 4 from the foul line.  Evalyn Cole chipped in with 7 points and 4 steals, Braeden Tokar with 6 points and 4 rebounds, and Braylon Byrnes 2 points and 2 steals to round out the scoring for Ovid-Elsie.

Ovid-Elsie collected 26 steals off of 46 Chesaning turnovers while assisting 14 times on 21 made baskets.  The Indians held a slight 26-21 rebounding advantage on the night and outshot OE 45.8% to 36.8% from the field.

The Lady Marauders have six road games coming up including a trip to Byron on Friday, Perry next Tuesday and then at Chesaning a week from Friday.  Note:  The ladies will play the second game at Byron on Friday night after the Varsity Boys contest.
