The Ovid-Elsie Lady Marauders stayed perfect on the season (6-0, 3-0 MMAC) after a 60-17 victory over the visiting Durand Railroaders. Ovid-Elsie's relentless defense held the Railroaders scoreless in the first half, as OE went into the locker room leading 31-0.
"We want to play fast and a lot of teams will just sit in a zone," said Head Coach Ryan Cunningham. "I thought defensively we played as well as we have all year in that first half and that led to a lot of easy baskets for us."
The Marauders would use quarter scoring runs of 16-0, 15-0, 18-5 and 11-12 to keep Durand (4-2, 2-1 MMAC) at bay.
Sophomores Evalyn Cole and Braeden Tokar paced the Marauders offense with 14 points each while Caitlyn Walter added 10 points, Kiah Longoria 8 points, Ava Bates 7 points, Hailee Campbell 4 points and Kaylee Hall 3 points. Bates and Longoria led on the boards with 3 each while Walter added 4 assists and 4 steals. Cole and Braylon Byrnes added 3 assists each while Tokar and Bates each had 3 steals.
"It was great to see our posts working hard on the interior, especially Tokar tonight," added Cunningham. "They (Durand) have some good size and I thought she took it right at them tonight."
Ovid-Elsie shot 51% from the field and nearly 86% (6-7) from the foul line. The Lady Marauders were able to turn Durand over 31 times which included 15 steals and assisted 19 times on 25 made baskets.
Ovid-Elsie will be back in action on Friday as the always dangerous New Lothrop Hornets come to town. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
