Lady Marauders Pick Up Conference Win, 61-16

Game Date
Dec 14, 2021
Score
MARAUDERS: 61
LAKEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL: 16

After a slow start, the Ovid-Elsie Lady Marauders picked things up and finished strong, defeating conference foe Otisville-LakeVille 61-16.  The Marauders led 8-3 after the first quarter but then cranked things up with quarter runs of 18-4, 16-2 and 19-7.

"We started off a little sluggish tonight," said Head Coach Ryan Cunningham.  "We missed some easy baskets and had some early fouls and I think that frustrated our kids."

Caitlyn Walter had a team high 16 points including 3-3 pointers on the night, while Evalyn Cole finished with 10 points, 4 assists and 2 steals.  Walter also added 3 assists and 4 steals.

"We mixed up our rotations a bit tonight," noted Cunningham.  "We wanted to bother them with our size and length but I think it threw us off a little bit too.  Once we got into our normal rotations, we really gelled from there."

Ava Bates (9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals) and Hailee Campbell (8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals) each chipped in with 8 points, while Braylon Byrnes added 6 points and 4 steals, Braeden Tokar (7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals) and Izzy Loynes each added 4 points, Rylee Lewis 3 points, and Kaylee Hall 2 points.

"We had a lot of kids step up and contribute tonight," said Cunningham.  "We are still a bit of a 'work in progress' but I like how were competing.  And, I gotta give a lot of credit to (Kiah) Longoria and Cole who held their best player to one point on the night until the final couple of minutes."

Ovid-Elsie outrebounded LakeVille 38-27 and collected 25 steals while turning the Falcons over 33 times.  The Lady Marauders also handed out 23 assists on 26 made baskets while only committing 13 turnovers on the night.

Ovid-Elsie improves to 4-0 (1-0 MMAC), while LakeVille falls to 1-2 (0-2 MMAC).

Ovid-Elsie will travel to Mt. Morris on Friday night for another MMAC tilt with the Panthers.
