Ovid-Elsie got off to a slow start against a very good and experienced Potterville team tonight dropping the contest 52-40. OE (0-1) travels to Clinton Saturday for a 1:30 contest against the Redskins. Potterville improves to 2-0 on the season.
The Marauders were led by sophomore Caitlyn Walter who knocked down 3 three-pointers en route her 17 points while senior Lauren Barton chipped in with 9 points. Madison Cunningham and Kaylee Hall each added 5 points for OE.
“We just dug ourselves too big of a hole tonight,” said Head Coach Ryan Cunningham. “All things considered, we didn’t play that bad but our youth and inexperience was evident. This is a process and my girls won’t quit...they’ll keep grinding and we’ll keep getting better. Potterville is a pretty darn good team and it was a good test for us.”
Kalista Bancroft and Madison Cunningham led in rebounding with 4 boards each, while freshman Kiah Longoria handed out 7 assists in her debut as the new Marauder point guard. Barton also added 4 rebounds and 5 assists.
After Saturday’s tilt, OE will host Lansing Sexton on Tuesday, Vestaburg on Wednesday and then travel to MMAC league favorite Byron on Friday.
