Junior Caitlyn Walter tied an Ovid-Elsie single game record by connecting on six three-pointers on the night. Walter finished with a game high 26 points as Ovid-Elsie improved to 9-3 and 4-1 in the Mid-Michigan Activities Conference by downing LakeVille 62-18.
"She has been shooting really well lately," said Head Coach Ryan Cunningham. "A lot of teams we play will sit in a zone and I give her the green light and tonight she delivered once again."
After a sluggish start, the Lady Marauders finished the first stanza leading 22-8 and followed it up with an 11-6 second quarter to lead 33-14 at the break.
"I just didn't feel like we played that well," noted Cunningham. "We lacked intensity but overall I am happy with the outcome and we were able to play a lot of kids tonight."
Ovid-Elsie would use a 22-1 third quarter run to keep the Falcons at bay and finished the game with a 7-3 fourth quarter effort.
Senior Tristin Ziola scored a career high 14 points while Kiah Longoria added 8 points, Braylon Brynes 5 points, Hailee Campbell 4 points, Evalyn Cole 3 points and Murphy Alexa a pair of free throws to round out the Marauder scoring.
Campbell led on the boards with 6 caroms while Madison Cunningham added 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Campbell and Cole shared honors in the "steals category" with 5 thefts each, while Longoria and Walter each dished out 3 assists.
Ovid-Elsie will travel to Midland Bullock Creek on Monday night for a non-conference showdown with the Lancers before returning home on Wednesday to take on league foe Mt. Morris. The regular season will wrap up with a trip to Chesaning on Friday, March 19th before all teams enter district play beginning March 22nd.
