The Ovid-Elsie Lady Marauders traveled to Montrose Monday night for their first conference game of the season. OE turned back the Lady Rams with a 43-15 victory.
"This was one of those games where nobody stood out but everyone contributed, which is okay," Head Coach Ryan Cunningham stated. "We're just happy to pick up a conference win on the road."
Ovid-Elsie got off to a hot start and led 17-4 at the end of the first quarter and followed it up with a 12-3 run in the second to lead 29-7 at half. The third and fourth quarters (7-4, 7-4) increased the Marauder lead to ensure the win.
Caitlyn Walter paced the Marauders with 8 points which once again saw nine players reach the scoring column. Tristin Ziola added 7 points and 8 rebounds for OE.
"I've been really impressed with Tristin's consistent play," noted Cunningham. "She always gives us a lift when she comes in and has been a steady presence for us underneath the basket."
Kiah Longoria, Ava Bates (4 steals) and Braylon Byrnes each added 5 points for the Marauders while Evalyn Cole, Braeden Tokar and Hailee Campbell each chipped in with 4 points each. Madison Cunningham (3 steals) added a free throw to round out the OE scoring.
Ovid-Elsie (4-1, 1-0 MMAC) travels to Burton-Bendle on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. showdown and then will await its next opponent as Friday's conference match up with the Mt. Morris Panthers has been canceled due to contact tracing within the Mt. Morris program.
