The Ovid-Elsie girls tennis team traveled to Lansing Catholic on Saturday, May 4th for the Cougar Invitational. Ovid-Elsie dropped their first dual match of the day 2-6 to Jackson Lumen Christi. The lone wins came at first singles with Jollee Swender winning 6-0, 6-3 and Kaia Spiess at 4th singles with a 7-5, 6-0 win over her opponent
The Lady Marauders then topped Lansing Christian in the second dual match with a 7-1 win. Jollee Swender won 6-3, 6-1 at first singles, while 2nd singles Ellyanna Carman defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0. 3rd singles Jenna Tomasek had an amazing comeback to win 3-6, 7-6, 10-4 in the third set tie break. The first doubles team of Willow Evans and Hailie McCreery cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win and the 2nd doubles team of Mikayla Bashore and Evaley Swender won 6-2, 6-2. Ava Anderson and Autum Baczkiewicz topped their 3rd doubles opponents 6-1, 6-1 and the fourth doubles team of Jolene Hebeler and Lauren Phillips won 6-1, 6-0.
In their final match of the day Ovid-Elsie suffered a close loss to Lansing Catholic 3-5. The 2nd doubles team of Mikayla Bashore and Evaley Swender won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 while the third doubles team of Ava Anderson and Autumn Baczkiewicz rallied from behind and won 3-6, 6-2 ,10-8 in the third set tie-break. Jolene Hebeler and Lauren Phillips won again at fourth doubles 6-3, 6-2.
